Our Products: The Pirate Queen, Imperial Red

In collaboration with the Quality Inn Beer Store.
An Imperial Red for a 16/17th century Irishwoman who refused to take the knee for Queen Elizabeth I, seeing herself as an equal. Grace O’Malley (c. 1530 – c. 1603), the Pirate Queen of Co. Mayo had travelled to London to request the return of relatives held by the English. Commonly known as Gráinne Mhaol (anglicised as Granuaile), unfortunately no contemporary images of this extraordinary woman exist, so our can illustration is of another legendary pirate, Mary Read (1685–1721).

Lighter in colour than our Redhanded, but with a little bit more of an alcohol kick at just under 9%, Pirate Queen is a lovely light red to amber in colour with a cream coloured head. Pouring with a slight aromatic hint of hops, it’s a delicious malt driven beer. And we think it should be great for storing.
