A traditional dark, roasty, and dry stout with notes of coffee and chocolate. This is very much in the Irish style with no added flavourings or lactose. Traditionally the X denoted alcoholic strength, ranging from a single X to a XXX!
Named after the famous and defunct Mountjoy Brewery belonging to the legendary Dublin Findlater’s grocers chain. Not only did Findlaters have their own brewery in the 19th century, they also owned their own distillery, and imported their own wine directly from europe. Early own-brand marketing!
“Deep dark brown in colour and with a pale beige head, this Irish-style stout brings lovely roasted coffee, toasty malt and dark chocolate notes on the nose. On the chewy, medium-bodied palate it’s mainly dry and those flavours persist, with a slightly smoky note that comes with the roasted malt component. It’s a wonderfully modest 4.5 per cent alcohol, meaning that while it’s big and chewy it won’t knock your socks off with big booze. ★★★★½” Ben MacPhee-Sigurdson, Winnipeg Free Press
