A rich, malty Scottish beer with notes of toffee, burnt caramel and honey. Warming but not boozy, this full flavoured beer is very approachable despite its higher ABV.
Manitoba has a strong Scottish tradition, with the first Highland Regiment in Western Canada raised in Winnipeg – the 79th Cameron Highlanders of Canada. And the tartan on the can? It’s the official Manitoba Tartan!
“Don’t be fooled by the “wee” component of this name — Stone Angel’s Scotch heavy ale is medium-chestnut in colour, brings an off-white head, and aromatically features raisin, spice, toasted oats, a subtle reedy note and hints of dried apricot and prune. It’s a heady, full-bodied and intense ale, with the nine per cent alcohol bringing heat with the slightly sweet dried tree fruit, spice, oatmeal and raisin components before a long, warming finish. Sip slowly and savour this on a cold night. ★★★★1/2″ Ben MacPhee-Sigurdson, Winnipeg Free Press
